I don't think it is as simple as that. Even if we had the best site in the World , I'm not sure people would bother to listen!

Conservative Home reports today that “There's real fury about today's grammar schools policy amongst the MPs who I have spoken to today. Roger Gale MP has just been on News 24 describing the policy as a move from Conservatism to socialism.”

Can't disagree with that, I did say above that it looked like an attempt to get old Labour voters to cross the line.

Default Grammar schools, Conservative Manifesto 1997

In the 1997 Conservative manifesto the following line appears:

"We will help schools to became grammar schools in every major town where parents want that choice."

If they think this is going to bring Old Labour voters across, well what an imagination these boys have got.

Well no, I don't think it's brave, I think it's a cynical calculation that's miscarried. They want to shed the 'nasty party' image, and they envy Nu Labour, who seemed to have their cake and eat it (at the expense of the future), with Honest Tone. They are gambling that the Tory Faithful will put up with anything to just get rid of the present lot, as well as the country at large becoming bored with them.

Unfortunately, the Tory Faithful see a decreasing amount to identify with in "Call me Dave's" Blu Labour. Just a clique who'll say anything to get into power, much like the current crew. They don't seem to believe in anything much and certainly nothing which their traditional supporters approve of, and there'll be precious little difference if they get into power.

I'd guess that some will go along with this, some go UKIP, but unfortunately not many, and for most it will be just another reason to disengage, and not vote or participate.

Totally agree with you, Penta.
It is cynical, stupid, self-defeating, crass, ill-thought out and an indication of Cameron's intention to try and grab every vote going.
What he is going to find though is that he will catch the same number of votes as he could with Liza's bucket - no matter how many you pour in at the top, even more will pour out through the holes at the bottom.
