The title of this thread is "Kinnock despairs of (Charles) Clarke".
I despair of both of them. Good to see the two europhiles falling out with each other though  . |

Perhaps now Clarke will put up or shut up as regards the Labour Leadership, Milliband does not have the courage and neither does Milburn, does Clarke finally have the honesty to say he thinks Brown is not up to it and try to do something about it. I Cannot remember him doing anything honest in governement perhaps he may suprise us now. |

You are right to spot that Miliband does not have the courage to stand for the Labour leadership (unless his announcement that he won't run is a tactic to quell rumours until after bad results for Labour in next month's elections). As Michael Portillo (who failed to stand against Major in 1995 - unlike John Redwood MP) wrote in this week's Sunday Times - Miliband could come to regret later having missed his chance now. The opportunity for Miliband to grab the Labour leadership may not come his way again. One cannot faile but notice that most of those identified by the press as (allegedly) plotting against Gordon Brown are europhiles (the names Milburn and Charles Clarke keep coming up). These people have not forgiven Gordon Brown for announcing in 2003 that he was not recommending that the UK enter the euro. |
