Default 'New opinion poll result worst ever for Blair - UKIP on 2%'

Blair today gets news of his worst opinion poll rating since he became Labour leader  , The Times claims. The newspaper publishes the results of a new poll which give the discredited europhile Blair his lowest approval rating since he won the Labour leadership in 1994..

The article on the new poll in the Times today says “The Conservatives are nowhere near where Labour were at this point of the 1992 government. Then, Labour’s rating had risen to 44 per cent and remained at that level for the whole of the second half of the Parliament. The Conservative average in polls published this year is 38 per cent."

The Times also says that the rise of small parties is a "worry" for Labour and the Conservatives because the number of electors opting for "others" has gone up from about 8% at the May 2005 General Election to nearly 11% last November and 14% now.

UKIP are on 2% says Populus (who carried out the poll for today's Times).

It is astonishing that Cameron cannot break through the 40% barrier given the condition of both governement and country at the present time.

Opposition appears to remain fragmented, there could be a real danger of a fourth Labour governement propped up by the vile Lib Dems after the next election.

At last!! We are no longer classed as nationalists. Does this mean that we have finally managed to shake off our label as extreme nutters?

I would not hold out too much hope Harry! But it has to be good news for your party that you conistantly are registering in polls and are not just counted as one of the 'others'

I think the tags of extreme, eccentric etc will always be used by those in the political mainstream who fear UKIP.

David Cameron's strategists have admitted that they are taking "a risk" in going 'liberal Conservative' while sidelining the anti-EU pro-sovereigntists in the Conservative Party (and Conservative electorate).

I predict that the number of pro-sovereignty and anti-EU voters which the Cameron-led Conservatives lose at the next General Election will be far greater than any they gain from the 'liberal left'.

There is also the fact that the 'liberal left' do little or no campaigning work for the Conservative Party - while the anti-EU people and eurosceptics are the backbone of the Conservative Party. When one leaves - alot of free (i.e. voluntary) work goes with them.

The Conservative Party membership is down since David Cameron took over as Conservative leader in December 2005. It is also little reported that the party remains in debt (like the Labour Party).

This is a label put on UKIP by europhile newspapers - mostly with small circulations and purchased by people who would never vote UKIP anyway (i.e. the 'Independent').

I do not believe that the wider electorate has such a negative view of UKIP.

The problem - as with all small parties - is persuading voters that they can win under 'first-past-the-post'.

UKIP can also tag other parties with 'colourful' labels.

The term 'Blue Labour' invented by UKIP to describe the Cameron-led Conservatives appears to worry, annoy and irritate the anti-UKIP wing of the Conservative Party.

2% is less than the vote share UKIP got at the last General Election (which was about 2.6%) but 2% is not that bad considering the party has little or no national publicity; has not leafletted most homes and has had no election broadcasts on television or radio.
