Secondly, my logic is this: If MPs actually have a link to the area they represent, they may be more likely to a) care about what constituents say and b) be more sympathetic to local issues/concerns and ergo represent constituents interests better in Westminster.

So,finally, you have exposed your MP Mathew Taylor as an MP who dallies over answering question put to him by a constituent, well done.If he dallies and gives you more **** responses you need to mention the fact but when you do so make sure you name him each time.
With regard to your logic for wanting candidates standing in a constituency to have a link to the constituency they are going to stand in,what will happen to these constituencies when none of the locals are interested in standing? Will you have a backup plan to compulsorally force a local to stand,or,just forget about a constituancy that has no candidate from the local populace? |

I sincerely doubt that would happen to be honest, given that in most parties a lot of councillors are looking to fill their Parliamentary candidates shoes.

So,like I said, what would be the plan if no local candidate came forward?
You had a nice idea but it could never work, even if all candidates were acceptable, some constituencies would end up without a suitable or local candidate wouldn't they? |
