Default Lord Tebbit's prediction of next General Election result

Lord Tebbit (the former Conservative Chairman who called for withdrawal from the EU last October) thinks that Gordon Brown (likely to be the next leader of the Labour Party) has a good chance of defeating pro-EU and anti-UKIP David Cameron at the next General Election:

Lord Tebbit said on ‘Frost Tonight’ on ITV 1 at 11.27 pm on 25.1.2007 “Blair polled 13.5 million votes in 1997. In 2005 he polled 9.5 million. He’s lost 4 million votes. The Tories out-lost him. We couldn’t get back the 5 million voters we have lost. The Labour MP John Cruddas (a candidate for the Labour deputy leadership) agrees with me and has said this. The parties are fighting over 4 million votes in the so-called centre. 17 million people are not voting. ‘None of the above’ will soon will the next election. David Cameron is a potential winner for the next election. I’m beginning to think it’s almost impossible to lose against this government. They’ve doubled NHS spending – is the NHS twice as better. They introduce a new crime bill every week practically. Crime goes up. They’ve spent more on education – but there are more illiterates than ever before. We need tax cuts – the Conservatives should offer this. What’s wrong with saying that you are going to give back a little more of what people earn in tax cuts? If Blair stood again he would only get 5 million votes next time. So Gordon Brown will obviously be a stronger candidate than Blair. If the economy stays good then he (Gordon Brown) will be hard to beat.”

Still promoting the mindset of Red vs Blue though isn't he.

Still desperately trying to keep the puppet show alive.

I agree with you. The Tory Party, particularly the Old Gaurd, can not accept that most real core Conservatives want change, out of the EU, lower tax, real schools, properly equiped armed forces etc.etc. Many Tory friends have told me of their unease with Cameron and agree with our UKIP ideas, their fear is that by voting for us they could find the socialists back in power however they equally think that life would be no better under blue labour. Now is the time ,IMO, for us to start a no holds barred UKIP marketing programme.

How can anyone "win" when 17 million don't take part. Tebbit's reasoning is OK, but it seems he is more concerned with Cameron than about the democratic deficit in this country. Truth is, most people think that voting won't help them.

Last night on TV, there was a programme about pensions and the misery of all that. Gordon Brown is far worse than Robin Hood!

The person who presented last night's programme about pensions was Jeff Randall, the eurosceptic and very anti-Cameron and anti-Brown editor at large/economics editor of the Daily Telegraph.

I remember Mr. Randall writing in the Daily Telegraph on 18.10.2006 "Deciding against euro membership, was, I suppose a plus on Brown's score sheet, but I refuse to give him much credit, because it was the economic equivalent of opting for fish n' chips instead of rat poison - a no brainer."

Jeff Randall is one of the best people on the Telegraph in my view. He's a solid eurosceptic.
