Default Labour slips up on length of oil reserves

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...509068,00.html

Quote:
LABOUR has been accused of misleading the public in the debate over independence after one of its own policy documents revealed North Sea oil reserves will not run out for “at least 30 years”.
While the party has claimed publicly that an independent Scotland would face economic catastrophe because of dwindling oil reserves, the internal Labour document says the industry will continue to flourish for decades to come.
This 30 years thing makes me laugh. They were telling it would last 30 years, 20 years ago.

If Labour telling obvious blatant lies makes me think they WANT the SNP to win. And when you think of the end game, of course they do.

Default 60% of the oil would not belong to a Scottish mainland Govt.

I just thought I would add that 40% of what many people call Scotland's oil actually lies in English waters (or in the waters of the Shetland/Orkney Islands which may stay in the UK and/or become a self-governing part of the UK if Scotland were to quit the Union).

We don't need to import oil, our reserves our large enough.

So we should declare an embargo against Russia.

We should buy it all for as long as we possibly can, thereby, preserving our own supplies for the future.

We should pay a prime rate to our suppliers for this because they will always remember our loyalty to them.

Nothing wrong with doing a deal for a five or ten year term, then, renewing it every twelve months so we always have the cushion of five or ten years supplies.

In short, preserve what we have, and, pay for what we want.

We shouldn't buy anything from totalitarian states.

To secure oil and natural gas reserves we should sign FTAs with all Muslim countries, but Iran should give up its nukes.

As I said, I want to impose an embargo against Russia, which is a totalitarian state.

No other country should be forbidden to export to GB though.

Russia isn't the only totalitarian state.

I definitely think a sliding scale should be deployed. Free, democratic countries should get unfettered free trade (if they want it).

Totalitarian regimes with bad human rights abuse records, should get near zero.

The government should decide what levels in between get. For example, if a country was basically free, but put up trade barriers, then the UK should decide whether to continue to offer free trade on everything, a few barriers itself. The democratic will of the people should be the deciding factor on this.

Russia is a leading Democracy in comparison to most Arab States. I'd sooner do deals with Russia than Iran et al.
