Default Boycott Somerfield plc

I hear that the supermarket Somerfield will only sell French eggs. Another nail in the coffin of British Agriculture.

We don't have one, so I can't boycott it.

Morrison has listened to my customer feedback and slaps Union Flags on everything that comes from Britain now.

You check their fruit and veg sections now, all covered in the flag.

Only supermarket I will use.

I work for Somerfield and I am pretty sure that this is incorrect. I will attempt to find out for certain.

Incidently the company is not a PLC.

Default French eggs

I know a UKIP member who shops at a branch of Somerfield and I have asked them to check to see if the report is true  . If it is, I expect they won't be shopping at Somerfield much longer.

Millions of 'faked' free-range eggs dupe shoppers

Most of the contaminated eggs came from only three farms in Spain, the FSA said. France had the second highest contamination rate.

Bastardos.

Luckily it doesn't effect me in the slightest, because I always buy British eggs.

Why the **** would we need to import eggs anyway?

I saw the other day that we export the same amount of potatos to South Africa as they export back to us. That has to be utter lunacy.

We have 2 massive egg farms near us - PDHook and Deans Farms. Deans produce eggs for Iceland (corn fed lighter yolk), Co-op etc (bright yellow and white boxes of big eggs), Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's. Large boxes of hundreds of eggs goto the catering trade. The Sainsbury's economy eggs in cardboard boxes come from the same hens as the Iceland eggs in plastic packs- no difference whatsoever, they're all corn fed. You pay for the packaging! My wife and I did some weekend work there to pay for a holiday and used to swap eggs from Iceland to Sainsbury's boxes out of sheer boredom - good holiday though!

The farm has 250,000+ laying hens in batteries at any one time. The hens lay for a set period and when they are shagged out and not producing enough eggs their meat is so stringy that they are shipped to Shippams for paste or Campbells for soups. The broken and cracked eggs are shipped by the trolleyload to Mr Kiplings (allegedly) and a cosmetic factory.

Why on earth would anyone buy imported eggs or milk by choice? I look for British labels on all fruit and veg in season and only buy imported stuff when I can't get British or when Brits don't make or grow the item in question.

Default Barn birds have room to scrap

The Marks and Spencer free range eggs (from this country) are very good.

I won't buy eggs produced in battery cages.

As a slightly cheaper alternative to free range are eggs which are from chickens in a barn. These are sold in most supermarkets. The barn is slightly larger than people think - one pictures a small barn with a happy family of half a dozen or so birds. However, the barn often has thousands of chickens in it  - but at least they have a bit more room to move about and peck at grain (or each other) than in a battery cage.

Same with Germany.

Word of warning to you egg lovers visiting local farms for your free-range. Make sure the bloke selling them to you actually has chickens. One bloke around here just goes and buys 'em from Tesco, up the prices and sells 'em as free range from his "farm shop".

One UKIP member I know buys free range eggs from their local market. I suggested that they might not be free range and the person admitted that it was possible that it could be a scam.

I get them from the supermarket. I heard somewhere that a special stamp/mark on the eggshell confirming that it is an authentic free range egg is being considered.
