Boooooo. I'd be tempted to boo the overpaid bunch of primadonas that try to pass themselves off as footballers too. As it is our national anthem though, I won't boo it. I do agree England should have an English anthem at sporting events though.

Don't forget NI also has God Save The Queen. In my view, the problem lies with the Scottish and Welsh, not the English and Northern Irish. They are using the oportunity to make a separatist statement. Why is there a need for it? No one will get confused whether the Scottish are Scots or English if they also sing God Save The Queen. Most football supporters realise that the colour of the shirts is the most determining factor in this.
A change is not needed, nor, I believe, wanted. The Scots have lost their national anthem (I mean God Save The Queen) because of this action, because the song has become linked with England and not Scotland through the different usage at sporting events. This has been caused by Scottish action, not English. However, it's their loss. PS I don't believe anyone should boo national anthems when sung. This practice actually leads me to believe it would be better to not have anthems at all. |

In football the nations are seperate and always have been. Therefore, I think we should have a English choon to start us off for battle.

I've written up the following (information from the Daily Telegraph 21.10.2006):
A cross-party group of MPs have called for ‘Jerusalem’ to be made the national anthem of England. The group said on 20.10.2006 that ‘God Save The Queen’ should be kept as the British national anthem and used by all four parts of the UK when playing sporting opponents outside the UK. But England should, the group said, use ‘Jerusalem’ as its anthem when playing Wales or Scotland in sporting events. A parliamentary motion calling for ‘Jerusalem’ to be made England’s official national anthem was signed in October 2006 by the eurosceptic Andrew Rosindell MP (Conservative, Romford), Daniel Kawcynski (Conservative, Shrewsbury-Atcham), Lindsey Hoyle MP (Labour, Chorley) and Lynne Jones MP (Labour, Birmingham, Selly Oak). Scotland and Wales already have their own anthems. ‘Jerusalem’ was composed by Hubert Parry and written by William Blake. The group of MPs thought that Land of Hope and Glory was “more British overall” and that ‘Jerusalem’ was more suitable. |

England does have a national anthem.
Land of Hope and Glory is played at the commenwealth games when England win a gold medal. It is also played in Boxing Tournements when the home nations are represented seperatly. |
