Disregarding the FACT that I would quit ukip if it engaged in an electoral alliance with the BNP the question arises, who would be top of the list/s? Where other than the North East, Scotland and Wales could UKIP agree to a BNP candidate topping the list, ie the least likely areas for electoral success? How could any UKIP member in those areas stomach campaigning for the BNP?

Oh, for goodness sake - another one who seems convinced the BNP are the spawn of the devil. Get real - they have a few (perhaps more than other parties) committed racists but are trying - and succeeding - to shake off that point left to them by their previous history. The support the BNP is gaining is impressive, especially in the cities of the north.

If you are really concerned about racists in political parties you should look at some of the bigots in UKIP. Any party which is remotely nationalist (and I include UKIP in this) and is overtly anti-immigration will attract some people who are racist - fact. Until they come out of the woodwork there is not a lot you can do about them.

The real enemy is the EU. There has to be some kind of coming together in the medium term, otherwise the liblabcon divide and conquer strategy will prevail.

I'm aghast at the response and sorry you feel that way Matt. Let's break it down line by line:

Quote:

Yes, the BNP contains racists - no-one disagrees, surely?

I've met 'normal' people in high and middle level jobs who are voting BNP. They see no other choice. Like it or not, the BNP are becoming more established. That's fact based on electoral results. Surely none of that statement is anything but a reiteration of the facts?

Do I really need to name names? DO you really believe there are no racists in UKIP?

No argument there I suspect.

Does anyone truly think that any one of a small collection of comparatively tiny parties can turn the tide on their own? It is a matter of pragmatism. The enemy of your enemy is your friend, and all that. In an ideal world, there would be a merging of all the various anti-EU groups, surely? If it is a toss up between working with the BNP, or staying in the EU, I know which one I would have to choose.

The point I perhaps badly made was that, pragmatically, we have to have a coming together in the medium term. I can't imagine what that might look like, or how it would operate, but without getting all the groups together, we're screwed.

Please note - nowhere have I wrote that the BNP is a bunch of truly nice people who deserve your support and respect. However, it is clear that round here if anyone mentions the BNP in any sort of light other than 'they are the spawn of satan' then that person becomes tainted by association. What ****.

CS
The BNP need the respectability that good people would confer. At present they cant hide the thugs, they will never be able to hide their history.

To be associated with them is too big an ask for me.

No chance!

OOOOOOOOOH - you've mentioned the BNP Oliver!

YOU TOO WILL BE SHUNNED!!!!!

edit - seriously Oliver, regarding "The BNP need the respectability that good people would confer" - it's happening. Currently in parts of this country the BNP are seen as the only alternative to the liblabcon, and people vote for them despite all of the other factors. Again, I'm not trying to score points, just stating actual facts. The job of UKIP then is to become the real alternative - but UKIP has not done this in the past and needs to move fast to make it happen.
