Broadcaster Whale joins UKIP to run for Mayor 24-10-2006 Evening Standard - 24th October 2006 The outspoken TalkSport broadcaster will challenge Ken Livingstone for the capital's top job in 2008 as the UK Independence Party candidate. He promised that if he won the election he would scrap the congestion charge, get rid of "appalling parking Gestapo officers" and recruit advisers ranging from Peter Stringfellow to Lord Archer. "I think what Ken Livingstone has done to the people and image of the capital is unforgivable" he said. "Under me, there wouldn't be the waste of money that there is under him. I would liberate the people of London from unfair taxes and continous intrusion in their daily lives." UKIP Leader Nigel Farage said Whale "not only has guts, but an understanding of what real people think." But the DJ may have trouble persuading Londoners that he is serious - he has no experience in politics, having spent his career as a "shock jock" radio and TV presenter. |

Yes, I am very uneasy about all of this. UKIP have no power of course over the media, but to reproduce it on the main site, they had better know that he is going to run for UKIP.
If not, he could well be annoyed by this. If he has said yes to UKIP, then why the non commital on T.V. yesterday. I think Nigel needs to jump on this and make sure it doesn't go wrong.

Nigel needs to get this sorted or we are going to end up looking absurd.
Incidently I am not to keen on Whale being our candidate. His total opposition to faith based schools does not sit well with me. We should be argue for more parental choice not less. |

Has Mr. Whale joined UKIP? If he is thinking of being the UKIP London Mayoral candidate then he should join UKIP now as a sign of his commitment. |

James Whale, the presenter who the London Evening Standard said (earlier this week) might be the UKIP candidate in the next London Mayoral contest, said on TalkSport radio on 26.10.2006 at 0010 hours “The Conservatives (under David Cameron) are following Blair to manipulate the media and only allow in (for discussion) what they want.”
Mr. Whale interviewed the Conservative MP, Alistair Burt at 1132 pm on 25.10.2006 on TalkSport Radio. As the interview ended, Mr. Burt (showing Conservative interest in the Standard report about the Mayoral election) asked Mr. Whale “Are you going to run for Mayor (of London) James?” James Whale replied “Who knows? But the Tories (Conservatives) have been knocking at the door. Caller Nick told Whale (in the same programme at 11.49 pm) “You need to have Nigel Farage (the UKIP leader) back on again. Cameron and the BBC won’t talk about the EU.” Mr. Whale responded “I was impressed (with Mr. Farage when I interviewed him on Talksport Radio on 22/23rd October 2006). Quite a lot of the followers of his party (UKIP) are a little strange but that may change. That might also apply to the other parties. So far David Cameron hasn’t had the courage to come on this show. The EU has just said that it won’t pass (approve) its own accounts for the 12th year running.” |
