How do you know that the person from Trinity College Dublin isn't an Irish Republican who would have his own interest in seeing the break-up of the United Kingdom? I hardly think such a person would be impartial in these matters!
Until the death of the RC Archbishop McQuaid in 1973, it was frowned upon for Catholics to attend the Protestant Trinity College although some middle class Catholics did because the education was considered superior to University College Dublin. Trinity is one of the oldest universities in the British Isles having been founded by Elizabeth 1st in 1592. Not really the sort of place for hot blooded republicanism, and not all the lecturers are Irish.

Anyway there are still some Unionists in the 'Pale', and even some republicans who would have supported a federation of the two parts of Ireland with England, Scotland and Wales before we all joined the EU. All the Irish wanted was to run their own country. They would never have joined the EU if the UK hadn't because they didn't want to loose their best market at the time.
