Pay for Tony Blair's "fat cat" public-sector bosses has rocketed by five times the rate of inflation - even though many have been slated for poor performance and presided over heavy losses.

In the nine years since New Labour came to power in 1997 the top ten earners - paid for by the taxpayer - have seen their incomes soar by more than three times the rises enjoyed by the average worker, new research shows.
