Of course, Stoke has actually been banned from taking part in any "cesspit of the universe" competitions on the grounds of giving some other hole a chance.

This debate is starting to seem like splitting hairs with most of the UK now so congested, loutish and scruffy.

Some parts of Nottingham are very posh - others are not at all! What on earth are these London-types on about. They still think Brum is backward, when in fact it is, like nearly everywhere else, changing apace. I don't give much credence to these "north of Watford" introspects!

There's nothing wrong with Stoke. And it was actually an EU commissioned survey that said there was.

I have enjoyed my visits to Stoke - to the impressive Trentham Gardens and to Hanley.

Neither of those places are in Stoke :P but I agree with you that Stoke isn't as bad as people (including apparently self loathers) make out.

Default Insulting list

Hence this rating I suspect.
Nottingham city centre is one of the best in the country. It is a fine city with a great history. Its town hall and castle are architectural masterpieces. Its shopping centres among the best in the land. It's football team a major player in UK football. There is crime there - but there is crime in many other places too.

Those that put Nottingham on the list have insulted a great city. I bet most of those involved in the compilation of this ridiculous list have never even been to the city.

The people of Nottingham should rightly feel outraged - as should the residents of some of the other places mentioned.
