I agree with what ED says above. It is very unlikely she would apply to UKIP. But if she did - the party should tell her to get lost.

Her credibility sunk with many people when she didn't resign from the Government when Robin Cook (the Late former Foreign Secretary and Leader of the House) did over the Iraq 'war'. Although she did eventually go - she took so long over it that her eventual departure (from the Government) was rather an anti-climax. Not that I'm suggesting that she only clung on to her job in the discredited europhile Blair regime because she liked the Ministerial salary and Government limousine, of course.

I don't like her anyway - she's just another CND-type leftie who is no friend of the Unionist (i.e. pro-British) cause in Northern Ireland, by the way.

The only thing she ever did for the eurosceptic cause was express her surprise that a third of our International Aid budget money has to be given to the EU.

Apart from that, Claire Short has (in my view) proved to be politically useless.

No doubt there will now be calls from some Labour Party political activists for the next Labour candidate for her constituency in inner Birmingham to be someone of the Islamic faith. The Labour MP (and ally of Gordon Brown) Ed Balls, is also looking for a seat after his Normanton constituency was abolished by the boundary commissioner.

I bet UKIP wouldn't tell her to get lost (she is anti-EU afterall).

I know damn well the English Democrats wouldn't.

A seat in Westminster would see some of her flaws looked over I reckon.

The last Labour MP to join an English National Party was John Stonehouse! :shock: I don't think the English Democrats would be so naive.

Better she joins up with Galloway. Then we'd really get Punch and Judy! :tumble:

Are you sure she's anti-EU? I bet she voted for the EU Amsterdam Treaty which Blair pushed for relentlessly. Is she on record anywhere as calling for EU withdrawal? If she is, then it puts her above Galloway :shock: who - from listening to his weekend evening 'phone-in on TalkSport radio - I know is pro-EU :evil: .

Thank you Arden. Claire Short has written a fairly ambivalent article. She seems to be saying she's not happy with the EU but their is no urgency in her remarks to quit the EU. Like many Labour people not enthusiastic about the EU, rather than favour EU withdrawal and the huge amounts of money we would save - she just prefers to favour increasing tax as a way of filling the gap (caused by loss of money to the EU).

At least she suggests as slimline EU and raises the possibility that the euro might collapse.

At the end of the day, though, if there was a vote in the Commons on staying in or getting out of the EU she (Claire Short) would (in my view) vote to stay in (if the choice was in or out only).

She has gone along with everything the europhile Blair has done on giving more powers to the EU during her time as a member of the pro-EU Blair regime.

Ah, but that was when she still thought she had a career,

I'm not saying she is the ultimate MP, or that I even like her. However, she wants to put the boot into Blair and a small party could gain valuable media coverage by taken her on board for a few years.

Maybe not right for UKIP, but one of the nano parties, like the EDP or Pop Dems could make a leap by getting her services for a couple of years.
