English Democrat
Dartford Kent Dear Department of Constitutional Affairs On 10 March 2006, Lord Falconer, said on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme, that the Goverment would not hold a referendum on an English Parliament for England, in the same way that it had organised a referendum for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in 1997 because "There is no demand for an English Parliament - in England" I would like to refer you to the polls published in July 2006 A Mori Poll was publised on - 9 July 2006 - " Views of English Devolution" 41% of Voters in England in favour of an English Parliament with the same powers as the Scottish Parliament. http://www.mori.com/polls/2006/ecc.shtml ICM Poll - 15 July 2006 - 31% of Voters in favour of English Independence http://www.snp.org/snpnews/2005/snp_...-17.1680089069 And also the on going BBC poll http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_po...N#vote_4792120 currently showing 76% of respondents favour and English Parliament. Apart from the fact that the current goverment is full of MP's and Peers with their loyalties to Scotland rather then England, please can the Department of Constitutional Affairs explain why when there is now a clear demand for an English Parliament (and indeed English Independence), that no plans are being made to hold a referendum on the matter ? I look forward to your reply with interest. Yours sincerely English Democrat |

Irrelevent issue until the issue of Britain's puppet parliament is addressed. How has Scotland or indeed Wales got genuine devolution when they are both under the sovereignty of Westminster and that, in turn, is a powerless County Council of Brussels?
The fact that Britain has 60% of its laws originating in Brussels is the REAL issue and has to be dealt with first. |
