I agree that terms such as Wessex and East Anglia and maybe even Mercia, would, could, come back into general use, but I would doubt the benefit of creating these as regions as they would probably evolve into mini-states comprised of several counties. It would only be a matter of time before these mini-kingdoms started campaigning for their own independence from England! In fact, I am sure there used to be, maybe still, is a Wessex Regional Party, it certainly fought in the 1979 GE.
Besides, they are more historical terms than actual traditional terms, with the exception of the likes of East Anglia. |
