Rats don't spread disease on purpose anyway. They are just trying to survive, like ever other creature on this planet. Just because the seal looks cute and has a better rep, doesn't mean it deserves humane treatment and the rat doesn't.

My sister had a pet rat and it was a nice little creature.

Sure they need controling, but they don't deserve any worse treatment than the seal.

The best way of controlling the rat population is to have good waste disposal which doesn't allow rats to get into bins. Also people need to stop littering, especially with food. How much food gets thrown onto the streets every weekend? I've seen a lot, discarded burgers and other food. This just feeds rats.

As Matt stated, domesticated rats, which have had their wildness bred out of them, make good pets and they love being with people.

Is it illegal to club those that fail to be 100% loyal and in awe of the great man - our Glorious Leader?

And why is there a picture of a vile vermin dirty rat?

If you had a rat in your wheelybin would you stop the pest control officer from despatching it with a piece of 4 by 2 ?
I like rodents, I keep gerbils, and I happen to like rats too. Rats have to be controlled, but pest control officers don't go around bashing rats with 4 be 2s.
Oh yes they do. I know one (council pest officer). He was reported by the householder. She wanted it released ! Same happened when he shot a squirrel with the air rifle he had been supplied with. Go to China and see dogs being cut up alive. Thats real cruelty. But I bet it doesn't stop you buying cheap imports does it ? If you eat meat you take part in cruelty. This is hopefully regulated to reduce suffering as much as possible.

Default Greys v. reds

Apparently, around here the squirrels get into people's roofs and residents can hear them running around. Quite funny, really (may be not so much for people trying to sleep). I was appalled to read (in last posting from Brian) that someone shot a squirrel. They are known to some as 'tree rats' but are, of course, much nicer than rats. I read that most squirrels (the grey ones) are from either America or the european continent and that they grab food supplies, leaving the English reds with little to eat (resulting in a decline in the number of 'reds') .

Some of the reports of cruelty to animals coming out of communist China are appalling. It is an absolute disgrace that the EU is trying to expand its links with the reds in China and build it up as the main ally of the EU  .

The communist Chinese regime isn't that nice to humans either.
