Default Child booster seats.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/default.stm

Don't forget slaves of the state, you will get fined for not having booster seats for your older kids as of Monday.

Also remember to wrap them in cotton wool. In fact, don't leave the house, it's a dangerous world out there.

I am surprised they haven't made wearing crash helmets compulsory in all vehicles, not just bikes and racing cars. I mean, think of all the lives they would save!! (yes, I am being sarcastic).

The money that is going to be made on this latest 'directive' (I bet the EU is behind this somewhere) must be considerable.

The EU is behind this. UKIP raised the issue months ago.

Needless to say none of the media were interested. Now they pick up on this issue and i bet most of the people in the media are not aware it is an EU directive.

European Union legislation (Directive 2003/20/EC) on the use of seatbelts

This is exactly the kind of thing to get people angry

However, if they get thrown through the windscreen in a crash (1800 a year!) has UKIP a policy for picking up the pieces? :?

The parents are responsible for their children. The state should advise where there is important information, but ordering people to wrap things in cotton wool isn't the answer.

Encouraging people to take personal responsibility for their own lives and the lives of their dependents would be a better idea.

Perhaps parents should be banned from allowing their kids to play rugby?
Perhaps families should be banned from having irons, knives, other dangerous things around their homes.

Car companies usualy are very quick to react to saftey issues now, as it is a key selling point. Perhaps we should ask why they haven't addressed this issue, if it is such an issue.

If this happens its the parents fault for not being responsible,I've used booster seats when I thought they were necessary i didn't need the government to force me to.

What the government should do is put forward the evidence and strongly recommend using booster seats. If people ignore this advice then they will pay the price.

What is the basis of this claim that 1800 children are injured (presumably annually) by going through a car windscreen because of not using a car booster seat?

No all kids must keep stabalisers on, indeed adults must have them too.

It's for their own good, they can't be trusted to look after themselves.

Pedestrians must be licensed and tested every three months.

Current pedestrian licence and insurance must be visible at all times.

£1000 fine for anyone walking at night without lights (first offence).
