Default 'Cameron wants all-Labour shortlists for Tory candidates'

More news about David Cameron MP, the pro-EU and anti-UKIP leader of the Conservative Party:

From an article (obviously written in jest) in the Private Eye edition dated 1.9.2006 – 14.9.2006:

‘Cameron acts on shortlists” by our political staff Peter O’Bore

"The Conservative leader David Cameron today told his party that the make-up of shortlists for prospective parliamentary candidates had to change if the Conservative Party was ever to to be elected again. “We have to reflect modern Britain as it is” he said “and that means changing the balance of our candidates. To be honest there are far too many Tories (Conservatives) on the lists and I would urge local Tories to select non-Tories instead. We must positively discriminate in favour of candidates who don’t share our views in order to appeal to the public in general.”

Mr. Cameron would not commit himself publicly to so-called “all-Labour shortlists” but in private he acknowledge that an exclusive choice of prospective Labour candidate was the only way forward for the Conservative Party."

* also from Private Eye edition dated 1.9.2006 – 14.9.2006:

"It’s not all bad news for Sussex Tories – David Van Day, former member of the naff 1980’s pop groups Dollar and Bucks Fizz – who went on to run a burger van in Brighton in the 1990’s – has been selected to stand as a Conservative candidate at next year’s Skidrow (Brighton) council elections."

With candidates of this calibre, the call-me-Dave party could be unstoppable!

I'm a great fan of Cheryl Baker too. A very pleasant person I would say. I always enjoy listening to what she has to say when she pops up on the box. And I actually thought 'Dollar' made a couple of excellent songs at their peak.

It is true that David Van whatever his name is did or does run a burger van in Brighton (it was shown on one of those 'Whatever happened to..." programmes a few weeks ago). I would suggest that he might do a good job as a councillor if elected next May. He could do no worse than that Labour rabble down in Brighton.

Apology accepted.

Anyway, david van day was never a member of the 'proper' bucks fizz.

At the time I was into Yes, Zeppelin and so on - but guess whose poster was on my wall?

(hint - not David van day - although if I recall correctly the bird in Dollar was quite fit)

Yes, she was. She looked much better than many of the girls in pop bands do today (in my view). Didn't one or two of the males in the original Bucks Fizz get angry with David Van Day for setting up a 'tribute' band using their name or one similar to it? I'm sure I saw a programme a couple of years ago which said it all ended up in court. Maybe I'm wrong.

It is quite amazing that 25 years after the original Bucks Fizz won the Eurovision Song Contest - the name Bucks Fizz is still so well known to most people.

Interesting you mention an "endowed" female standing for election. In 2001, Jordan/Katie Price stood as a candidate in my constituency. I stood in 2005, and thank goodness I got more votes than her, otherwise I'd never have lived it down
