You can of course make your own life more interesting. One way is to have a standard e-mail 'footer' with the words 'Jihad', 'Bomb', 'Semtex' and 'airliner' in it.

This absolutely ensures collection by our intelligence services.

Now, wouldn't it be interesting if we all did it?

Although tactics may be similar, strategies for dealing with practical vs. apocalyptic terrorists can differ widely. Practical terrorists may have legitimate grievances that deserve consideration, although their methods cannot be tolerated. Apocalyptic terrorists, no matter their rhetoric, seek your destruction and must be killed to the last man. The apt metaphor is cancer: you cannot hope for success if you only cut out part of the tumor. For the apocalyptic terrorist, evading your efforts can easily be turned into a public triumph. Our bloodiest successes will create far fewer terrorists and sympathizers than our failures.

That is the argument of the campus, not of the battlefield, and it insults America's service members and the American people. On our soil, he is either a spy or a saboteur, and not entitled to the protections of the U.S. Constitution. Those who abet terrorists must grow afraid to turn out the lights to go to sleep.

I'm betting it won't. Echelon would have modified the catch phrases since 9/11 in order to avoid too many false positives from normal folks talking about what a bunch of a-holes the terrorists are.

I can tie it to a year when it started.

1997. Though to be honest, if I had been paying attention instead of going clubbing, getting a career and generally being focused on me only, then it could have come earlier.

I'm thinking about taking the blue pill again now.

Heh. I remember downloading the Maastricht treaty from Compuserve and actually trying to print it on some toilet roll, back in '92. Using a dot matrix. It didn't really work.
