Tories criticised by right-wing Heritage Foundation over EU
News about the Heritage Foundation, which UKIP’s leader in Brussels, Nigel Farage MEP (and Godfrey Bloom MEP) visited (on behalf of the EU ‘Parliament’ Independence and Democracy Group of which UKIP is a part) in 2005: -
The Heritage Foundation, the American political ‘think-tank’, published a paper in August 2006 saying that although the Conservative Party had returned “as a major force in British politics” there was concern about the vagueness of its policies.
The author of the paper was Nile Gardiner, a well-respected member of the Heritage Foundation. He pointed out “The newly released (Conservative) party (mini) manifesto ‘Built to Last’ (published by the pro-EU and anti-UKIP Conservative leader David Cameron) makes no mention at all of the USA and failed to outline a coherent vision of strategy for fighting the global war against Islamic terrorism or confronting the growing threat posed by Iran and other rogue regimes. Nor does it address the future of the UK’s relationship with the European Union.”
Mr. Gardiner also referred to criticism (made by William Hague, the former Conservative Party leader) of Israel recently (regarding its military actions inside Lebanon) “Even a Democrat-controlled White House would balk at the kind of language being used to describe the Israeli action against Hezbollah.”
Sir Malcolm Rifkind, the Conservative former Foreign Secretary, has allegedly led an internal Conservative Party battle against what some call “American neo-Conservativism.”
