This is nothing new and has been going on for years - the Prisons do not notify the DWP that a claimant is a prisoner - and how would they know unless the individual tells them that they are on benefit? It would be easy for somebody to notify the DWP of the name address and date of birth of each prisoner.
A convicted prisoner can get the rent paid on their home if they are going to be released within 13 weeks. A prisoner on remand can get the rent paid for their empty home for a maximum of 52 weeks while they are still on remand and as long as they have not been sentanced! |
