My biggest problem is not that John Reid is Scottish it is that he was once a member of the communist party.

Default John Reid

It seems a bit strange to me to be against someone because of what they used to be. So, for example, John Reid apparently used to be a member of the Communist Party. I am more interested in what people think now! Surely we should welcome the fact that a former Communist is no longer a rabid Red. The same goes for former members of the National Front ... Lets face it, people do all sorts of unwise things when they are young. Some young people sleep around and take drugs, others get involved in radical or what majority opinion regards as extreme political movements. Which is worse? Although, as we know from survey evidence, a lot more people sympathise with the BNP than are prepared to vote for it. It is a crime to have been sincerely wrong in one's immature political opinions?

That might be the source, but its rubbish. The original source has got Hain as Scottish, when everyone knows that he is South African and born in Kenya. At least you've corrected that, the rest of it is just as wrong.

Of the other ones who are supposed to be Scottish, Timms was born in Oldham; Hewitt was born in Australia, to an Australian father; Miliband was born in London, the son of a Belgian refugee and Margaret Beckett was born in Ashton-under-Lyne to an English father and an Irish mother.

Jowell was born in London, but went to school in Scotland, so I guess she might be from a Scottish family.

Eng Dem, you're a cretin.
I wouldn't say so, but I have urged the members of the EDP to stop this very silly game. I saw the list and thought, "what?"

It's all silly nonsense trying to suggest what we are. It's what we think that matters. And suggesting that Tony Blair is Scottish, well! The Sunday Times once reported that "they don't see him as being one of them" meaning Robin Cook, Gordon Brown, Alastair Darling, late Donald Dewar, and others. I think Blair sees himself as Blair. He'd be a bit to bashful to repeat his "Scottishness" in front of Brown! (as he allegedly did on entering the Commons)
