Smith has an even political shadier past. Much of it is on the internet. He was a leading member of the controversial far-right Federation of Conservative Students and once said (later quoted in Mail on Sunday) ‘We wouldn’t throw anybody out for saying “wog”’.

After allegedly dissecting alive his former girlfriend’s pet rabbit and attempting to torch her home he spent time on remand in Brixton Prison under psychiatric observation.

In the 1980s it was noted for being more radical than the main party until it was disbanded by the then party chairman Norman Tebbit for publishing an article which accused former Conservative Prime Minister Harold Macmillan of being complicit in the massacre of Serbian prisoners of War in the aftermath of World War II. Another controversial position was the "Hang Nelson Mandela" slogans which were apparently worn by some leading members. In October 1985 they were accused of physically intimidating Edward Heath.

There was some damage during the 1986 FCS conference at Loughborough, leading to press reports of a "riot". Members had rampaged through the dormitories, knocking down doors with fire extinguishers and shouting "Kill the wets". Two members had a fight over a girl and her pet rabbit was gutted and nailed to a door. There were also reports that a discussion of Thatcherism in a Berlin bar led to the assault of a German student.

Some members were accused of glorifying death squads in Central America. The Federation made badges with the words "Nicaragua Must be Free" as they supported the Reagan-sponsered Contras against the Sandinistas. Ironically, some Labour students began wearing them without realising their real meaning.

The FCS received further embarrassment when one of its regional chairmen, William Beggs, was caught and convicted of the sexual murder of an 18 year old man. Another former leading FCS activist[citation needed], Lloyd Beat, committed suicide whilst being investigated for alleged paedophile offences.

Yes the YCs were a great organisation to belong to. Lots of girls. Lots of fun.

I get the impression that its miniscule replacement 'Conservative Future' consists of a bunch of spotty asexuals and homos with personal odour problems. Nothing wrong with public schools. I suspect most of today's 'Tory' morons attended pubic schools.

Are there any women in this ridiculous organisation? :twisted:

PS I was Vice-Chairman and later Vice-President of Wessex Area YCs which covered an area from the north of Buckinghamshire to the Isle of Wight. In my day one branch alone had 1000 members!!!!!
