From today’s Daily Star (5.8.2006):
‘Political Correctness gone mad’ A group of lawyers have been banned from calling themselves English because the government says it is racist. Now legal eagles are fighting for the right to register themselves as the English Solicitors Association. Fury erupted when the title was turned down by Companies House on the grounds of racial discrimination. The Department of Trade/Industry body which holds a register of all UK businesses insists that the term English covers different types of ethnic groups. Lawyer Jane Phillips of the solicitors group said that Companies House policy stipulates that if you use a term such as ‘English’ it should only refer to the place rather than a racial group. Jane, 47, from Oxfordshire, added “Companies House has registered the Irish Travellers Movement in Britain”. They are simply treating the people of English Anglo-Saxon descent differently. Robin Tilbrook of the English Democrats backed the lawyers. He said “It’s political correctness gone made to stop them using the term English in England.” |

Quote:
I intend to complain the moment I come across an example of anti-Englishness or discrimination against England or the English (language, customs. culture, people, nation). England - the nation at the heart of the world's biggest ever Empire and the land that created the most widely spread world language has no official status as a country or people (unlike the Scottish). This has to change. Soon. |
