Default Forced marriage ban lacks support

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4799728.stm

Quote:
A consultation exercise by the government suggests opinion is closely divided about whether a new law is needed to ban forced marriages.
A narrow majority of those who responded, including individuals and pressure groups, was against a ban.

Forced marriages - different to arranged marriages, which have the consent of those taking part - are most common in South Asian communities.

There are worries that a ban could be counter-productive.
Can you believe this is even an argument in "Great" Britain? They are now so scared of upsetting minorities, that they are willing to accept people being forced to marry against their will.

When are people going to say enough is enough?

Forced marriages should be seen as rape and kidnap, and anyone involved should be prosecuted accordingly.

And Halal meat should be seen as animal cruelty but we dare not stop it.
Wonder why.

Only an example of untouchable sectors of our society. I am not going off subject.

I totally agree! This is the same government who moved "Heaven and Earth" to ban Foxhunting! but haven't got the courage to ban forced marriages in case the "Ethnics" blow them up! UKIP should be making press releases about this terrible, terrible injustice to women! The BNP must be smiling as they watch their membership soar !

The same people who outlaw parents smacking misbehaving children, in the name of stopping abuse, will allow kidnap and rape to be legal.
