UKIP reveals the "West Lothian Answer!"
07-02-2006 The chairman of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), David Campbell Bannerman, has today (7.2.06) called for a "consistent UK wide policy" of Government. On the 100th anniversary of Henry Campbell-Bannerman becoming Prime Minister in 1906, his descendant, David Campbell Bannerman said: "Prime Minister Blair refuses to see that the 'West Lothian Question' harms national unity. The present structure has singularly failed to solve this issue, as we've seen with the day after day turf wars in the Dunfermline and West Fife by-election. Despite opposition from senior Labour sources, Mr Blair is blindly unaware of the democratic imbalance throughout the UK, and that Scotland's needs are not being met - despite so many layers of government and bureaucracy. UKIP's policy of withdrawal from the EU will lose one needless layer of politicians - MEPs - however, we can do more." Mr Campbell Bannerman today announced that UKIP will restructure the Scottish Parliament by removing all 129 MSPs, replacing them in the Scottish Parliament with the 59 MPs who currently work in Westminster. This will resolve the "'West Lothian question" - despite Mr Blair's irrelevant assertion today that the "'West Lothian Question' had "gone on forever". Under UKIP's proposals, Scottish MPs would sit three weeks a month in Westminster, allowing for Scottish Committee work, followed by one week's plenary session at Holyrood. Similar arrangements would take place in Wales, with the Northern Ireland Assembly retained. Mr Campbell Bannerman also made clear that the new Scottish MPs could be moved to a different building in Edinburgh, given the unpopularity of the current design. He added: "UKIP is the true Party of the United Kingdom. We wholeheartedly believe that each part of the UK should be treated fairly and equally, both in terms of policy and representation." ========================================== An English Parliament by the Back Door ???????? Effectively with Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish MP's out of the House of Commons once a month, this means that there is an English Parliament - not necessarily the route that the English Democrats would wish, but UKIP have definately moved their position - Well Done !
