Default Daily Express: £225,000 to tell OAPs how to wear slippers

http://www.taxpayersalliance.com/new...php?news_id=69

Quote:
WHITEHALL squanders more than £80billion a year on "wasteful and useless" schemes, an investigation revealed last night.

The probe discovered officials spent £225,000 on a campaign giving pensioners advice on the "dangers" of illfitting slippers.

And hospital managers lavished £40,000 on drawing up a 46-word "Patient Experience Definition" for the NHS. They discovered that patients wanted to be treated "with honesty, respect and dignity".

Both schemes were among a vast flood of wasteful directives and initiatives last year, that cost £1 for every £6 raised in tax.

Last night, campaigners warned taxpayers would revolt if the out-of-control waste under Tony Blair continues.
This is what all the people who have been employed in "make jobs" are doing. You want to know who the 1 in 5 voting for Labour are, here they are.
Quote:
"The total amount wasted comes to £80billion a year once unfunded pensions, defence procurement over-runs and computer glitches were included.

That's £4,000 per family." The worrying figures on waste by Whitehall departments, public services and quangos detailed in the book include:

Kingston prison in Portsmouth hired a pagan priest at £11.56 an hour, plus expenses, to give guidance to three inmates who converted to the religion while serving life sentences;

In 2004, the Home Office spent £74million hiring 142 consultants;

The Arts Council spent £77,000 sending a team of artists to the North Pole to make a snowman;

The Ministry of Defence spent £272,600 on eight paintings for its refurbished headquarters last year. "We didn't want to use second-rate paintings of dead admirals, " a spokesman said.

Two Sussex policemen were sent off on a £5,000 six-week trip to study gay community relations in San Francisco.

In 2005, 20 out of 24 government departments overspent their budgets. The total overspend was £7.1billion.

Each MEP costs £2.4million per year in salary, expenses, perks and administration.

And they spent £981,342 renting books last year.

Overtime totalling £500,000 was paid to six Essex policemen to come in on their days off and operate speed cameras.

A £67,000 salary was offered by Greater Manchester Police for a "diversity director" to discourage discrimination.

£100m was spent to keep 25,000 homes empty for asylum seekers between 2002 and 2005.

Between 2000 and 2005, one in every two new jobs created was in the public sector, many of them administrative.

The Ministry of Defence was identified as one of the worst offenders, thanks to the continuing cost of a series of blunders with major equipment, including the Eurofighter jet and the SA80 infantry rifle.

Huge waste by the Home Office, NHS, police and local councils is also highlighted.

The soaring bill comes despite Gordon Brown pledging to slash bureaucracy by £30billion over the next four years.

Treasury officials claim all Government spending is subject to "tight controls".

But Mr Elliott disagreed, saying: "Taxpayers are sick of politicians wasting their money.

Private sector employees are sick of seeing people in the public sector getting higher salaries, working shorter hours and receiving final-salary pensions.

"And people see our economy becoming uncompetitive whilst economies like India and China race ahead. Politicians from all parties need to wake up and listen to taxpayers."
All of the **** that I suspected, briefly summed up. Why aren't people marching on parliament to burn it down?

John Page is just starting out

Looks like their forthcoming book will be hair raising reading.

Another think tank / information source which UKIP can draw on in forming its policies.
