12 January 2006 - Immediate Release
UKIP Defends Padstow "Mummers" The "Mummers" of Padstow should disregard the nanny state and political correctness of Diane Abbott, UKIP said today. Graham Booth, MEP for the South West reacted with disbelief that the MP for Hackney in east London has condemned the traditional New Years music festival in Padstow. Diane Abbott has tabled a Commons motion calling on the government to ban it from happening again. Graham said today: "If the people of Padstow wish to participate in this event, then they should not be stopped by the MP for Hackney. As local organisers have maintained, it is obvious that this event was never intended to be racist. They have gone to great pains to ensure the event does not carry any racist overtones." "The organisers of this event raise money for local charities, and do much good work in the local community. The festival is a highlight of the year for local residents, in much the same way as the Notting Hill Carnival or the Diwali festivities are to the people of Hackney. Sitting on a sofa with Andrew Neil and Michael Portillo does not qualify you to judge Cornwall's musical festivals. I would like to know if Ms Abbott has ever attended this event? How can she judge?" Graham added: "We fear that this poliitcal correctness wagon will begin to attack other festivals like the Sweeps Festival in Rochester, Kent. What will be the next target? -ENDS- Notes to Editors: Link to EDM placed by Diane Abbott MP http://edmi.parliament.uk/EDMi/EDMDe...05&SESSION=875 For further information: Stephen Sobey on +44207 222 9365. |

hmm interesting. Well done UKIP. My mother re-activated the "Painswick Play" here in Gloucester with the Gloucester Folk Club, in the 1960s. It's been going strong ever since. Although this play has no obvious "racist" undertone, if they're starting to attack the folk-roots it won't be long before we're got at.
However, the local Deputy Mayor (an asian Labour Councillor) watches our play, so . . . ![]() Very good to see UKIP standing up for our Folk Roots. |

Living in Cornwall, I greatly appreciate what UKIP is doing here.
Darkie Day is a tradition. I don't give a stuff what Diane Abbott or any other self-satisfied Labour MP thinks of it. Darkie Day has been going for over 100 years and is not remotely racist. Perhaps Diane Abbott should spend more time doing some work in her own constituency?

"Extinction" of who or what by when?.
I assume, Morlock, that you have had, or plan to have, your 2.4 + an extra one to prevent that scenario. In the interim it is important that we hand down to future generations as much of our culture as we can. Some things will go by the wayside, some, such as bear baiting and **** fighting, have already done so. What we should not be doing is allowing the culturally ignorant to abolish our culture on a whim as happened so often in the past. The fat lady concerned has probably never been to Padstow, let alone attended the festival. There have been no objections from people who go to the festival so as far as I'm concerned that is the end of the matter. |

Tell you what, take in the following: 1. The non-White birth rate is far greater than the White one 2. Immigration – legal and illegal – is continuing 3. Official figures already show that British people are already a minority in many parts of our major cities 4. The rate of miscegenation is increasing 5. Reports I’ve seen (published in the Guardian and Observer) state that the indigenous people of these islands will become a minority in their own country sometime this country Based on the above, what do you think the prognosis is for our people? As regards culture, as I’ve said before healthy cultures do not remain static; they change, evolve and adapt. The important point to make is that previous changes in cultural norms; language, dress, modes of behaviour and so on have mostly been part of an evolutionary process within our own people. I just find it strange that someone can profess a wish to see culture and tradition continue whilst supporting policies that will condemn the people who created them to eventual extinction. |
