Default Congestion charge to be rolled out nationwide

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...895483,00.html

Quote:
CONGESTION charging is to be extended to towns and cities across England under government plans for a fundamental change in the way drivers pay for using the roads.

Local authorities in seven areas were yesterday awarded £7 million to develop a model charging scheme that will be rolled out over the entire road network in the next 10-15 years
Britain isn't over crowded?

They will also consider new taxes on workplace parking spaces to deter people from driving to work. Parking meter charges will increase sharply and thousands of bays will be converted from long-stay to short-stay.

Mr Darling wants towns and cities outside London to test electronic tagging and satellite tracking systems that allow charges to be directly related to the level of traffic on the roads.
Big Brother says Britain isn't over crowded.

The Government has allocated up to £200 million a year from 2008 to help local authorities introduce charging systems. Participating councils will also be given greater control over local bus services in a move that is likely to anger private bus companies

Tyne & Wear is considering using profits from its proposed charging scheme to compensate businesses for loss of trade.
That's a plan for long term success. Stealth taxes to pay for loss of business.

The day is approaching where I can no longer justify staying in this country. The operation to destroy England and Britain is almost complete.

One Londoner is just starting out
Default

For your info, this is the press release One London has just issued on this subject.

One London warns of Congestion Charge Perils

The One London group at the London Assembly today warned other British cities of the perils of introducing congestion charging, based on the experience of central London, where businesses are fleeing the c-charge zone at record levels. Lower than expected revenue and massive administration charges mean that the system only remains viable because of penalty charges.

Damian Hockney, Leader of the One London Group at the London Assembly said: "What is the point of reducing congestion if the price is destroying local businesses? Tyne and Wear is already considering paying compensation to business for lost trade. At least they are being realistic, unlike Ken Livingstone, who denies there is any problem, but this is the economics of the madhouse.

"The people of Edinburgh voted three to one against congestion charging in a referendum in February 2005. We urge other areas considering the c-charge to hold referendums, after a full airing of the issues. Let's have a sensible debate about tackling congestion and not allow local authorities to be seduced by the promise of government subsidies INTO phpbb_adopting damaging revenue raising and spending measures."
