Who is currently running Veritas then ? I don't see mention of the name RKS anywhere. Judged on this release, the ubiquitous Man from Mars could be forgiven for thinking that Damien is running the whole thing. After having lunched with Damien on one occasion, I find it quaint, after that encounter, to find that he now seems to have time for the rank and file. Just a personal view. No doubt he did some v. good work for UKIP in the past - but it's just that surely: in the past. To muster up any respec' from me, he could don some sackcloth and ashes and take a sabbatical from the GLA for a while, rather than make it crystal clear that it's positively his show. "We have therefore decided ....", "Damian will continue as leader....." "We hope you will join us." The more thought I give it the more unappealing the prospect becomes. Ask them politely to drop the use of UKIP, wish them luck in their endeavours and let them wither on the vine. We could then extend our sympathy when they leave County Hall. Keep it civil and at armslength. Will they/can they afford to, stand again anywhere?

I've been lobied by a Veritas member to try to get talks going to merge the English Democrats and Veritas.

Looks to me as if Veritas are 'rudderless' at the moment.

- English Democrats are alway open to 'talks' on a Euro-Sceptic Electoral Pact.

Funnily enough the Chairman of the English Democrats and the Chairman of UKIP coincidentally sat down next to each other at the launch of the Neil Herron's 'NO' Campaign.

Unsurprisingly they both appeared to have more respect for each other after their chance meeting.

- Imagine what we could all do together under one banner !

UKIP MAN is just starting out

I have searched through the post and so far I have not seen the question that I would ask. if Ive missed it I am sorry.

Has he asked for permision to link that party name with UKIP?

can anyone answer that?

It was said that Peter Hulme Cross did not really want to and has not joined veritas officially, that was mentioned at our branch meeting the other day.

but I think it was just a bit of rumour mongering for him to come back to UKIP.

This would mean at least one of them is an extremely poor judge of character ! 8)

Anyone had/got contacts with UKIP London Branches to find out how Hockney's letter was recieved or if any deals or "mergers" are taking place? Any feedback would be great. This letter is important and we need to know how it came about in the first place.

IMO the way forward is for the foot soldiers of the anti - EU movement to learn from the disaster of this past year. The main lesson being the incompetent leadership of both parties need to be replaced so that a single effective organisation can be put in place.

With the goodwill of the people that really count, ie the ordinary members I feel sure this can be achieved.
You say both parties, but there are more than two on the right. While your trying to sort the veritas/ukip thing out you should look at other parties, because there are a few smaller ones out there that are pretty much similar to you.

regards,
Gareth.

The second point is that the initiative appears to be a unilateral one from the Veritas London Assembly members. Has UKIP consented to these two now using its name and effectively representing it in the London Assembly, and if not, are we going to see a spat over this issue which will result in UKIP being denounced as unwilling to further the cause of unity?
The main reason the disparate parties should get together, is "strength in numbers" and the leadership are only a few men. What you need to do, is appeal to the members of the smaller parties, and find enough common ground to get a coalition going at grass roots.

Regards,
Gareth.

Each party's members should elect leaders who will unite the parties, or at least be willing to form co-alitions with other parties.

And Veritas is not 'rudderless'. It has seen the wisdom of this policy!

Question - Where is UKIP's press release on this issue to either confirm or deny a deal was done

If damion and the other bloke acted without UKIP's authoriy it puts UKIP in a week position just to let it happen

if an agreement was reached why dont we know what the deal entails

all the rest is just smoke and mirros

On the standing register of members' interests at the London Assembly Peter Hulme-Cross is now listed as a member of UKIP and he is no longer listed on the Veritas website as a policy spokesperson.

In fact the list of policy spokespersons has become noticeably shorter.

Damian Hockney's entry in the register says nothing about party affiliations but he does have this information on his general profile:

Quote:
As national Vice-chair of the UK Independence Party (2001-2003), he was at the forefront of plans to strengthen the party's commitment to non-discrimination, a commitment that continues now he has been appointed Deputy Leader of Veritas-UKIP.
A party requires at least two representatives at the London Assembly to be recognised and to get offices, staff and funding. Could Peter Hulme-Cross have returned to UKIP, thereby precipitating the need for a deal?

Could Damian Hockney be hedging his bets on a possible return to UKIP?
