Default What do you think of RESPECT?

Hi guys

Just curious as to what we all think of the Respect Coalition. I stood in Stretford & Urmston for UKIP, where Respect put up a candidate (he got 105 votes more than me...damn!). There is a VERY active Respect coalition branch in the area. Also, I am at University in Preston, and the Respect branch is active here also.

Thoughts people?

Do you have a lot of muslims living in your community, if so, that may be why Respect got more votes.

They are a broadly socialist party with extremely soft lines with regards to faith schools etc. They are founded by the SWP and the Socialist Islamic movement.

They're strange :? but they are fairly adamant on some points, like war.

Now that ER has gone off, I'll expand...

The first leaflet I got from Respect consisted of a message from Galloway and a personal message from each of about 8 different local representatives.

One representative said something like: "We will tax big business more". Along the lines of "evil big business monstrosities shouldn't exist" anti-capitalist rubbish, etc. (as usual).

Another representative said something like: "we want to keep the manufacturing industries employing people" (I think he was specifically on about the car industry).

Ummm... If you tax big business to the hilt, they go away and take their jobs with them. They haven't quite figured this fact out. Idiots, the lot of them.

I don’t know much about them either but they do tend to target Muslim areas and have very few policies. Personally I think they attracted disenfranchised Muslim labour voters because of the Iraq war.

They are all idiots

You know the letters in repect stand for something like for example p - peace and t- trade unions well the second E stands for environment yet before the general election they had NO policies on the environment and they hatred us pointing that out to them

I was at the count in Neath and the Repect canidiate came last . I had to congratulate the legalise cannabis lady for beating them. Plus the started yelling "stop the war" at the end of Peter Hain's speech
