I think the cards where going to cost about that (each!), plus the vast cost in taxpayers money to install card-readers in hospitals, job centres, council offices ect to check your ID, and to equip police officers with mobile card readers, and dont forget the money for the secure facilities to house the super-computers with all the databases on, plus all the overpaid beauracrats to look after these computers. Not to mention the pro-EU parties support this system so we will still be paying the £1 million per hour to them while all this is set up. And dont forget to pay your TV licence or you'll die!

You are forgetting the £6 Billion we have to pay to set up the system as well. That adds an extra £100 for every man woman and child in the country. Hence the cards will cost a minimum of £185 each.

And that's assuming the project doesn't top £6 Billion.

Then there will possibly be the legal fees and compensation payments after the government is sued for messing up people's lives with corrupted or faulty data, although it wouldn't surprise me if they are immune....

Don't forget that Bliar will probably get his friends from EDS (the people who brought you the Child Support Agency computer system) to run the whole thing.

That should bring you all a lot of comfort. I've been fighting those b*st*rds for some years now and every time anything goes wrong, guess the excuse. Yup, the computer's gone down.

So don't worry, it'll never work.

PS If I mention the CSA again, will I be sent to the war zone?

Probably not. Mentioning EDS is a different matter.

Guess who said:-

We all suffer crime, the poorest and vulnerable most of all, it is the duty of government to protect them. But we can make choices in spending to. And instead of wasting hundreds of millions of pounds on compulsory ID cards as the Tory Right demand, let that money provide thousands of extra police officers on the beat in our local communities. But the truth is that the best two crime prevention policies are a job and a stable family.

That's right Anthony BLiar, at the 1995 Labour Party Congress.
