Freedom of speech is not a licence to offend people
Actually it is, otherwise it wouldn't be free speech
'Offence' is the new Censorship.
I am offended by the Labour Party, so why aren't they banned. Answer, in Political Correctness it is only the 'Favoured Groups' whose sensibilities are recognised. Which is of course discrimination, but then that's a whole other subject.

I think that often, whether or not something may be deemed offensive is dependent upon intent and context.

The play was obviously not intended to be offensive, that some chose to be offended was their perogative.

My all-time hero Spike ('Sir' to you) called Prince Charles a "Grovelling little *******" (or near enough) but did Charles chuck bricks through Spike's window? Of course not!

Every Sunday I hear church services in which the practitioners of priestcraft preach myths and faery tales as facts. Now, this is offensive in my opinion because there is a deliberate intention to mislead and manipulate folks. But do I go chucking bricks through church windows? No!

It may be asked why I listen to such rubbish if I find it offensive. What I hear is not offensive, generally 'tis amusing. What is offensive is the manipulation. Church audiences must have the the cleanest brains around - dunno if the same can be said for their minds though.

And if anyone finds any of the above offensive ... um ... well, that is not my problem
