Guys, I think that not only do the English Democrats need to improve on their coverage but so do UKIP, if either party is really going to challenge the 'big three'
Analysis of eight December contests where all three major parties fought both times gives a projected line-up of C 36.4%, Labour 31.0%, Lib Dem 26.7%. RESULTS: Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Shielfield: C 111, Lib Dem 100. (May 2003 Ind unopposed). C gain from Ind. Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Spittal: Ind 206, Lib Dem 128. (May 2003 Lib Dem unopposed). Ind gain from Lib Dem. Carrick District Arwenack: Lib Dem 502, C 306, Ind 296. (May 2003 Three seats C 661, 657, 570, Lib Dem 566, 426, 384, Ind 195, Mebyon Kernow 191). Lib Dem gain from C. Swing 14.7% C to Lib Dem. Durham City Belmont: Lib Dem 364, Ind 244, Lab 119, C 63. (May 2003 Two seats Lib Dem 849, 818, Ind 491, Lab 252, C 85, 67). Lib Dem hold. Swing 2.1% Lib Dem to Lab. Essex County Harlow Little Parndon and Town Centre: Lab 1082, C 715, UKIP 261, Lib Dem 213, Hands Off Our Park 195, English Democrats 21. (June 2001 Lab 3062, C 1621, Lib Dem 1135). Lab hold. Swing 4.9% Lab to C. Falkirk Council Inchyra: SNP 603, Lab 282, Ind 169, Ind 28. (May 2003 Ind 937, Lab 455, SNP 235). SNP gain from Ind. Swing 21.6% Lab to SNP. Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Snettisham: C 437, Lib Dem 247, Lab 121, Ind 120. (May 2003 Two seats Ind 1217, 887, C 605, 549, Lab 296). C gain from Ind. Swing 9.7% Lab to C. Norfolk County Downham Market: C 1,301, Lab 223, UKIP 191, Lib Dem 190. (June 2001 C 2857, Lab 1666, Lib Dem 508, Green 157). C hold. Swing 16.8% Lab to C. From Friday December 10: Cambridgeshire County Cambridge Castle: Lib Dem 922, C 280, Lab 276, Green 117, UKIP 58. (June 2001 Lib Dem 2377, Lab 965, C 805). Lib Dem hold. Swing 0.4% C to Lib Dem. |

I agree, we need to be standing in every seat possible now. Above shows how poor we are at getting people to stand!

If there was some co-operation then we could have put our resources INTO phpbb_standing somewhere - where UKIP was not standing.
- I think that this type of co-operation is going to have to happen on a local basis, as the UKIP NEC don't seem to want to work strategically with any other parties. - Combine resources to fight the big three is what I would suggest (this does not necessarily mean amalgamating parties - just communication) ED |

UKIP need not only to increase their coverage and get candidates standing in EVERY poxy election going, but they also need to get their arses in gear with their manifesto. At the moment, UKIP are perceived as solely single-issue and people won't vote for a party they see as solely EU-centric in a non-EU election.

Remember the Derringham ward in Hull which UKIP took in June? That's going to a by-election thanks to a High Court challenge by the independent. Should be some news if we can hold on to the seat with an increased majority, and I think that there's going to be a proper campaign this time. Activists should pour in from miles around.
Winchester / N.Lincs Council show that the public 'punish' those who successfully challenge election results by voting for the original winner. UKIP could have a majority of hundreds if our campaign's right. The election is mid-January I think. |
