Does that mean we don't have a right to back this cause, if we see fit? I agree it is a real area of weakness for UKIP, I would like to see Scottish members reasons for this, and some ideas on what we can do to change this.

Default Step Aside

Perhaps UKIP in Scotland could Publicly step aside in the Constituencies mentioned and say that they will work with the Black Watch candidates in defeating Labour. Very simple, Very Effective, No Loss to UKIP, and a Policy we should pursue bearing in mind these amalgamations are just a pre-requisite for the Euro Army. UKIP Scotland are you listening?

That would go against the conference motion, unfortunately. I see no reason why UKIP can't pick up the cause. It is not inconsistent with our desire to protect our heritage, and so I don't think that it would be opportunistic.

So Buff Hoon has decided to go ahead with his preperations to destroy the British army, ready for the EU army to take over it's duties. This must signal the end of all support for Labour from anyone in the forces. I don't think they have much support form those quarters anyway!

Come on Britian, back our troops and don't vote for this bunch of sell-outs!

Are you refering to my shadow cabinet minister Geoff Bafhoon?

'Fired by the news that the six Scottish regiments are to become four battalions in a single Royal Regiment of Scotland, around 2,000 campaigners braved the biting cold to bring Edinburgh Princes Street to a standstill.

For a moment, even the Christmas shoppers put down their bags to applaud the passing mass of pipers in highland dress, military vehicles, supporters waving placards and war veterans.

Jeff Duncan of Save Our Scottish Regiments, which organised the protest, confirmed the organisation will take on Labour in key marginal seats in next years expected General Election.

To cheers from the crowd, he said:We will deliver a clear message to the government: If they do not listen to the people, they will pay at the ballot box'.'

Fresh from the Scotsman.

Looks like a definate goer. Will you be standing against them or maybe if there are candidates - withdraw them at the appropriate moment and offer support. There can't be anything more 'UK' than the existing 40 regiments. It is a system that has worked long enought - sod rearranging to fit the European model![/i]

Absolutely. UKIP should publicly announce we will not stand in opposition.

I agree, and would go further in promising to support their campaign and give them publicity on our websites.

This is not what people were thinking of, when the motion was taken at conference to stand in every seat. We have done it before with people standing in support of hospitals, and I think this cause is big enough to do it here.

Would the Black Watch people be happy to have our name as an affiliate supporter?

I still don't understand how this has been so incompetently handled. It is just a matter of labelling. Why don't they just form the six existing regiments/battalions INTO phpbb_a Scottish Brigade and have done with it?

The campaign has widened out from the Black Watch to include all the other regiments. Save Our Scottish Regiments is the title of the campaign.

@ Anthony, It goes far beyond labelling don't believe the Hoon spin, you have to take the word of the many ex-military in this campaign. They know that the new super-regiment will eventually merge INTO phpbb_the one identity and thus the end of the individual traditions is nigh. The new super-regiment will distroy the tribal set-up that encourages young men from the same towns, villages and streets to follow their fathers, brothers, and mates INTO phpbb_the local regiment as NCo's and men will be shunted between the individual 'regiments' and the solidarty of each identity will simply fade very quickly.
. I'm an ex-soldier myself and although never a member of one of these proud regiments I had the pleasure of being attatched to the Gordon Highlanders for a time. Much was lost when they were amalgamated with the Queens Own Highlanders and recruiting was never the same. If this merger goes ahead so much gets thrown down the drain.
