Default Extradition from UK to Canada

Live in the US, do have a concealed weapons permit in Arizona and always carry a firearm when on a long trip. Crossed Canadian border with hidden firearm to pick up a boat. Wasn't going to be in Canada more than 30 minutes. You guessed it, got caught. Arrested and released, their mistake. Picked up boat and crossed back into the US. Have not returned since but do have an outstanding arrest warrant in Canada. Mother-in-Law dying in England but don't know if I will be arrested and deported if I go to England and visit her as Canada is a Commonwealth country. Any thoughts?

Did they actually charge you and summons you to attend court?

    If not, you'll be O.K.

Oh yeah, they charged me and issued the warrant! Took them almost a year to do it. Would have been sitting in jail the whole time as well. My release on bail was an internal mistake, thank God. My Canadian attorney could not convince the "Crown" or should I say clown, that it would be pointless to pursue the case as I would not be returning to Canada to face the charges.

    Mmmm.

I would seek proper legal advice if I were you. I think you would be unlucky, but with "global terror" systems in place now, I wouldn't be surprised if they did haul you in on this.

    Default Extradition treaty?

Does the UK/EU have an extradition treaty in place with Canada? There's surely some kind of arrangement with the US because of the Natwest three &c.

Even my Canadian attorney can't give me a definitive answer and I'll be damned if I believe anything the British consulate tells me.

If you have two passports, try to find out which one will be best to use. If you go in as an American, the Brits might leave you alone. But get legal advice definitely!

What sucks is I'm a naturalized US citizen with passport, born in Canada, with my entire family living in England! The idiots in Canada act as though I was there to rob the local convenience store or something. Getting a concealed weapons permit in Arizona is no easy task, what with the background checks and training required. My bad for taking it across the border, but I wasn't going to just give it to them so they could confisgate it and never get it back. I think the border agents were ****** off that my gun was better than theirs!!!LOL

Why didnt you just check your weapon on the US side and explain that you would be right back for it after doing your boat business?
Thats what people normally do with contraband or weapons when entering Canada/USA.
Have you told us the whole story?

Just spent three days on the road to get there. Arrived at the border at 6:30 am. Didn't even think about checking it in someplace or where that might be. Had it hidden and really wasn't to concerned about it. Had bought the boat on Ebay and had all the paperwork (receipts, cancelled cashiers check, sellers name, address and phone #, etc) to show the border agents why we were there. 15 minutes across the border to meet the guy and 15 minutes back. No BS. Agent decided to flag us because who drives from Arizona to Toronto to buy a boat? Well, I did because I got a smoking deal. Turns out not to be a deal after all the attorney fees, impound fees for the truck and of course, bail money.
