Sometimes Inverness Traffic Wardens wear uniforms, yellow jackets
which say "Police Traffic Warden" on the back. Recently hear that Traffic Wardens are being given Police powers in view of the coming unpleasentness. ? Is it legal for Traffic Wardens to have the word POLICE on their backs ????

Yes it is legal for traffic wardens to have the word POLICE on their backs
Section 90 of the 1996 police act Impersonating a police officer (including a special constable) is an offence punnishable by up to 6 months in prison.including making a statement or doing anything to falsely suggest a membership of the police force, wearing a police uniform calculated to decieve.(I thought we had them at this point) However section 3 gets them off, exemptions........any person who not being in the police force has legally optained and has it for a lawfull purpose. Looks like they can sign up as many deputies as they like! |
