GUNS and Firearms in the UK

Hello All,

I'm in Canada and near Toronto. Recently the city mayor has asked the federal government to try and ba handguns and semi-automatic firearms from private owernship. He points to England as a country that solved their gun crime by banning handguns. In a country where 1 in 11 people own a gun it is certainly stiring the pot. I was wondering if I could get some of your opinions on how sucessful a ban there has been...

It doesn't really stop gun crime, there are problems with shootings in both London and Nottingham, among others.

Gun ownership was banned for law abiding people meanwhile criminal black gun crime has gone through the roof in British cities.

gun control doesnt stop murder because its criminals who do the murdering, and criminals dont follow laws, including gun control laws.

Exactly - yes guns are bad and kill people but the issue is not as cut and dried as it seems.

Well clearly gun control is tyranny. It takes away guns from the law abiding and leaves them in the hands of criminals and the state(which some think are often the same thing.).

You're absolutely right! The real joke is gun and knife amnesties! Can you imagine all those criminals lining up to hand in their guns and knives? Ha! ha! ha!

I was just reading about the Hanoverian attempts to disarm the Jacobite clans, it didn't really work. The loyalist(or disloyalists depending on your viewpoint!) clans handed in their weapons and the Jacobites didn't, so it just left the (dis)loyalists more vulnerable. It is usually the same with this kind of thing.
