Default Brian Haw beaten by police during "unauthorised" protest.

BBC NEWS | England | London | Peace protester injured in demo

Quote:
Seven people were arrested, one of them anti-war campaigner Brian Haw, during a demonstration outside Downing Street.
Mr Haw, who has been encamped in Parliament Square since June 2001, was filming the protest when arrested.

He accused police of using "violent and humiliating force" but said he would not be making a complaint.

A police spokesman said 100 people took part in the march against the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act (Socpa), which limits protests near Parliament.

Mr Haw, from Redditch, Worcestershire, said: "I was filming the students lying down in the road when one officer stepped forward, as I was walking back, and pushed the camera with his hand. It struck my face."

He said he was "dragged" by police into a police van, who pushed "my head close to the ground with my arms handcuffed high above my back".

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said they were forced to act because the march contravened the Socpa legislation.

"They did not seek authority from the Metropolitan Police Service for the demonstration," he said.
Becoming more like China every day.

What next, will they be vetting the content of the protest to make sure it doesn't hurt any Politicians feelings?

lol oops I didn't notice there was an echo in here .
Did you read the bit about the chap who rang up and asked if he could protest on his own roof in thr SCOPA zone against himself. Apparently this is ok, if it was against the government, then this isn't hmmmmm!

This explains something .
On Sunday morning my son who was staying London returned to the NCP car park where his car had been left overnight to find that he and 5 other owners had had their cars broken into. All 6 then spent the next couple of hours phoning the Police (whilst they wait for autoglass etc to come) , on only 2 occasions did anyone get through and then they were immediately cut off.
The wife of one of the chaps managed to stop a police car in the street but they said they were too busy to attend but gave her the number of their station - again absolutely no response.
Clearly the Police were too busy beating Brian Haw up to bother about crime.

I wouldn't bother even thinking about ringing the police on the 23rd of Jan in London. Even though they have been told they are not aloud to march on Westminster and don't have permission to protest they are going ahead anyway and pretending it isn't a protest. There is a total irony there what with the SOCPA legislation. I wonder how many of the fuzz will get nicked eh?
