OK, so I was in subway (I love their meatball sandwiches
) so halfway down the street whilst eating it, it hit me, the woman serving had asked If I wanted a 6-inch or footlong (no double-entaundre intended)... how very dare she in this state of Europe. I then realised that all the signs etc say 6-inch or footlong... and the TV ads. And the flyers in local papers you get sometimes. And on vouchers. Is there some conspiracy from the US to infaltrate the wonderland we call the EU with this stupid imperial rubbish? All irony and jokes aside, how do Subway get away with it. Of course I thank God they do, I dont want a 15.24cm sarnie, or more likely, greedy that I am a 30.48cm sarnie. But howcome they arent getting arrested like market stall sellers do?

Well 15cm or 30cm just doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?

Interesting. Maybe they get round it by insisting they are product names rather than descriptions of the size (i.e. they just happen to be that particular size, but that's totally conincidental!!)

Come on guys!
Subway and MacDonalds-both American origin and owned. Since when did the Good Ol' Boys use Metric measures? Also, bear in mind their respective purchasing powers/turnover/taxes paid and number of employees. Plus the enjoyment they bring to members of the lower orders who regard McD's. as the epitome of gourmet dining.(Except in Worksop where MacDonalds franchise went bust-to much competition from Asian/Chinese and local cafe's.) You could'nt make it up. I can't imagine the the local Trading Standards office being brave enough to take either of these corporations on: and good luck to them both.

They are about 1/3 that size. It is the size before they are cooked.

I think it's just the name - they aren't really selling burgers by the pound. I wonder if the Navy still uses 16 pounders etc. Perhaps they should lob a few shells off in the direction of Brussels and say "How's that for a pound of bananas?"
