They would be pursuing a lot less of them if they put them into prison when they caught them instead of letting go with a warning and a skiing holiday or new bike now and then.

I know! lets have a new law and prosecute anyone who causes an accident or drives dangerously because they were busy doing something else, like lighting a fag, fiddling wth sat nav, eating a mcdonals or whatever.

We could call it 'driving without due care and attention'.

hang on a minute....................

Seeing this on TV from a great distance last night I felt quite weird viewing utter bureaucratic fascism at work in the homeland of people who fought two world wars and survived the worst conflict catastrophe in history. Now they will be placed in prison for two years because someone may have had to speak, while driving a car, to a person who may have needed to contact them urgently. Surely, a hands free version is the same as talking to a passenger or trying to quell a child fight in the back seat? They aren't going to put you in prison for two years for doing that too, are they ....?

Lets ban men from driving eh. We can't be trusted. We all have to be punished.
You make a good case for implementing UK driving standards in USA.

Hmm, less than the number of bogus asylum seekers entering Britain stowed away in lorries, under trains etc. Perhaps the government should act to stop illegal immigration.

BTW, just for info, the Police are also NOT allowed to talk on radios or phones whilst driving. This has to be done by a passenger.
The problem is single manning I'm sure that I've seen officers driving and talking mind you not recently as they tend to be behind desks these days while CSO's are out and all they do is walk and occasionally cycle

BBC NEWS | UK | 'Needless risks' in police chases

The late Paul Smith suggested this a 100 word highway code
* Drive on the left. Make sure you can see and be seen. Keep a constant look out all around. Be aware of signs and regulations and why they are there. Be predictable.
* Recognise and anticipate danger and keep clear space from it. Always ensure that you can stop within the distance that you know is clear. Develop your skills.
* Give courtesy, co-operation and space to others. Don't obstruct them.
* Never take risks, drive unfit or compete with others.
* Safety is paramount and far more important than priority. Take personal responsibility for your safety and the safety of those nearby.
* Enjoy.

More common sense then anything put out by ACPO or the government he will be sorely missed

Agreed! But it is a pity that quite a lot of drivers think they are above the law and just arrogantly carry on as it suits them.

However, I do not want to see police snooping on drivers to see if they are twiddling car radios, etc. I think obeying the law is one thing, but be picked up on a catch-all careless driving ticket for "apparent" breaches is another.

Over 90%. Perhaps the minority who force the rest to do what they think is right are arrogant.

Maybe that's a case of two arrogants don't make a right!
