The great Brittish pub RIP.
Thanks to fascists who destroyed the pub owners freedoms to provide whatever service their punters wanted and being robbed of money by the taxman. A double whammy that is driving people out in droves. The destruction of Britain under the weight of neo fascism is now beginning to pick up pace. I fear only when X Factor is replaced with government health shows, will people start to give a damn.

Of course, surely also for the social chitchat, to watch the rugby/football etc.
And we are prepared to pay the increased cost of visiting a pub to do that (within reason). But for others to suggest that the decline in pub trade is simply down to a bunch of smokers deciding to boycott pubs because they have to go outside for a puff is drivel. If their assertion is true then presumably all us non smokers are to be congratulated for having the stoicism to keep going out to smoke filled pubs in the past in order to help keep them open for everyone to enjoy. One can only assume that the selfishness of many smokers extends to letting a liittle bit of fresh air soothing their nicotine ravaged features every time they pop outside for a smoke persuade them not to care less if their local shuts down or not as they stay away in droves. As they do in other European countries, eg Spain. Every other bar (certainly in towns) has a sign saying smoking is permitted. Out in the sticks nobody takes a blind bit of notice. I'm beginning to wonder how much of the British police state is really down to the EU - rather than the totalitarian New Labour Marxists hiding behind it. I've said on here before that we would have exactly the same oppression (stealth taxes, mass immigration and multiculturalism, spin and sleaze, increased regulation and surveillance etc) outside the EU because that's what our masters (whether Lab, Lib or Con) actually seem to want. |

Not forgetting private parties, which is where I was last night enjoying a relaxing hassle free smoke and all for free as well. The entertainment was provided by the same people who a month ago I was paying £7 on the door to see with a closing time of 12 o/c and security people all over the place checking people to see if they were smoking. Unfortunately for the people who run the venue the cost of all the government red tape meant the cost of hiring the hall went from £200 to £400 and so it has killed off most of the things people used to put on. People around here are literally livid with the government. Our Labour candidate never even makes an appearance in these parts.

Many pubs will close in the near future.I for one am not prepared to pay £3.10 a pint and stand outside. "Illeagal" drinking dens will be the order of the day soon. The cheap supplies will come from the continent ,we will be able to drink and smoke as much as we like and the govenment wont get any taxes.

I still know places in Norfolk where you can get beer for under £2, just don't expect to drink fizzy larger muck. The place I go to also plays the Rugby, has live acoustic and folk musicians and does bloody good food as well as brews it's own beer.
I don't think the decline in the pub is totally down to smoking, but it has certainly been another nail in the coffin. Ea of dune |

At least Labour got booted out of office in South Derbyshire in May of this year - for the first time since the council was created in 1974. I hope smokers who vote Labour will now stop doing so. |
