Default Missed your passport interview?, you need to reapply and pay another £72

Sorry I don't have documentary evidence for this online. I have looked at the IPS website and they have for some reason not mentioned the consequences of what they have the nerve to call their customers not attending the interview the customer has scheduled.

I have seen a letter from IPS which states that if 'you' don't give them at least 24 hours notice that you will not be attending your scheduled interview they "may" cancel your application and thus you will be required to apply again from scratch. It does not say they will cancel your application but that would naturally be unreasonable as there will always be extenuating circumstances why you cannot attend and they if reasonable will take account of those people who arrive late. They could choose to be unreasonable of course.

That could be a nice way of subsidising the costs of the ID cards. Pay your IPS employee £4 per half hour but effectively fine the reluctant acceptee of the system on the same pay something like 2 days wages for missing the interview.

The letter also showed how few of these interview centres currently exist. Fewer the better in my view but a big current burden for those who don't live in a handful of big cities.

I thought it might be worth reminding what the act says about ID card fees. That is all before they start fining anybody which naturally is far more extensively layed out in the same act linked below.

Identity Cards Act 2006 (c. 15)

Quote:
35
Fees in respect of functions carried out under Act
(1)
The Secretary of State may by regulations impose fees, of such amounts as he thinks fit, to be paid to him in respect of any one or more of the following—
(a)
applications to him for entries to be made in the Register, for the modification of entries or for the issue of ID cards;
(b)
the making or modification of entries in the Register;
(c)
the issue of ID cards;
(d)
applications for the provision of information contained in entries in the Register;
(e)
the provision of such information;
(f)
applications for confirmation that information supplied coincides with information recorded in the Register;
(g)
the issue or refusal of such confirmations;
(h)
applications for the approval of a person or of apparatus in accordance with any regulations under this Act;
(i)
the grant of such approvals.

Come the introduction of ID cards this government is going to be in for a rude awakening! 9 million defaulters expected at the last polling. Lets hope we can get it to 20 million.

This is basically tactic No. 1 at NO2ID. We figured a long time ago that the government was not going to be persuaded by pleading to them. Now we are on a roll resulting from the baroness and the Lib Dem leaders saying they will go to jail if need be. They will be joined by Joanna Lumley and probably a whole host of other influential people. It's going to be the weirdest jail imaginable. Enough to base a comedy sketch on I would say.

At the moment doesn't it only apply to adults applying for their first British passport?

Luckily I only had to renew mine this month, hopefully I'll get it in time for Christmas...

That is correct, sorry I wasn't clear about that. Adults in this case being those aged 16 and above.
