The ID card scheme may implode it has been claimed today - according to a report now on ITV 1 Teletext (analogue page 311).
Professor John Daugman of Cambridge University said "Using fingerprints to identify people would mean thousands of (ID) card-holders might be wrongly matched with someone else's details." The Professor warned of one in a thousands possible "false matches" when six million people "are in the (ID card) system." Teletext reported that Professor Daugman remained concerned about the possibility of "widespread technology failures" in the ID card system. Last edited by Britannist; 08-08-2007 at 10:17 AM. |

And the good professor is assuming there will be no attempts to resist or sabotage the ID cards by the public.
How about a few dozens (hundreds?) of thousand people changing their names to Michael Mouse, all having the same date of birth, and 'accidentally' rubbing a bit of dilute sulphuric acid all over their finger pads before the finger prints are taken?

Millions of our pounds are being wasted already on this fiasco. It will cost millions to maintain it too, forever.
I hate this country more by the day.

Super-glue dripped onto the finger tip over the print makes it unreadable
One has to remember to let the glue dry before putting one's finger on the scanner though... Then again, that would be a bloody good one! Hundreds of people gluing their fingers to scanners!!! |

I don't know if anyone else here works with scanners and readers but the failure rate is pretty good can you imagine the confusion when a scanner goes down and given the government's IT record I reckon that'll be worse then the private sector record
It will be laughable if it wasn't costing so much money from us taxpayers which could be better spent on other things
