"Carry on smoking..."

"Carry on smoking..." - the headline of a report on page 11 of this evening's "London Lite" (a free newspaper in the capital) which includes the following (brief extract) "A restauranteur openly flouting the smoking ban claims he has found a loophole to avoid being fined."

The article states that Dave West (63) of the Abracadabra and Hey Jo private members bar (in the St. James's area of the capital) had said that doormen will ask everyone who enters if they are a policeman or council official which they will then have to declare. Mr. West explained "The doormen will then radio down to us and customers will put their cigarettes in their ashtrays." He added "Even if they are lit - how can you prove they were smoking?"

London Lite reports that Mr. West has employed the firm Cherie Booth QC (wife of former Prime Minister Blair) works for to "take his fight to the High Court."

Mr. West complained "Where is it all going to end - I will take this fight to the European Court." He even said that he would be prepared to go to prison.

Westminster Council told London Lite that they had used "soft touch" tactics to implement the smoking ban so far but that any premises who "flagrantly broke the law" should be aware that the council would consider legal action.

My local is still just allowing smoking. No jumped up little fascists have visited so far, or if they have, they haven't said anything.

Why will millions be spent on this ridiculos
obsession, over years and years, to acheive
what exactly?
The subject tires me beyond beleif, if no
one could not see what this ban was really
about, will only have themselves to blame
when things really do go t**s up.

But you don't smell of smoke!!

Perhaps UKIP should have just two policies 'Leave Europe' and 'Reverse the Smoking Ban'. - They would certainly get a lot more votes than they do now!

Don't know how many leaflets the supporters could cough and wheeze through letter boxes though.
