Default BNP newspapers seized by police

The entire print run of this month's edition of the British National Party's newspaper has been seized by police. About 60,000 copies of the September issue of The Voice of Freedom were impounded after they arrived at Dover on Sunday, in a lorry from Slovakia.

Kent Police said an investigation had been launched INTO phpbb_whether any public order offences regarding the incitement of racial hatred had been committed. A spokesman said officers were working with the Crown Prosecution Service.

Kent Police were alerted by customs officers after the newspapers were found during a random check. The two Slovak drivers were released after questioning.

The British National Party (BNP) said the papers had been en route from the printworks in Slovakia to a distribution facility in Leeds . It has now published the paper on its website.

Spokesman Dr Phill Edwards said the seizure of the party newspaper was "a serious attack by the state on freedom of speech".

He added: "What they are doing is trying to look for something wrong when they don't know there is anything wrong. We are saying it is an abuse of power - we are supposed to be a free country."

On its website, the party said none of its leadership believed the customs search was random.

"No one believes it was anything else other than a deliberate act of disruption from the very top of the Labour regime," it said.

A Kent police spokesman said the force was liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) "to ascertain whether any offences have been committed by the possession and intended distribution of this publication".

The paper has been made available online here. We should all show our support for free speech and contempt for New Labour's Nazi policies by downloading it and passing it on whether we agree with the BNP or not.

I've read the paper, and I can't see anything that could possibly incite racial hatred. The only part that even mentions race is Rudyard Kipling's poem, The Stranger, which is printed on page 13.

The paper is about farming, industrialisation of China, pictures from the Red White and Blue Family Festival, BBC bias, the fact that the police asked BNP candidates to calm things down after 7/7, the Royal Navy, the politically correct policeforce, the war in Iraq, Kenny Smith being involved in Scotland's Trafalgar celebrations, importing HIV from Africa, a founder of the Labour party, coal, campaign for a Miners Memorial Day, and a few articles saying that support for the BNP is growing. Nowhere does it incite any hatred.

BNP councillor in bizarre police arrest

BNP councillor Angela Clarke is to bring a formal complaint against West Yorkshire Police after she was violently arrested and allegedly assaulted by police officers in Keighley. The police attended following a complaint made by a political rival activist who spotted the BNP councillor on a quite night out in the town, Mrs. Clarke attempted to remonstrate with police about the political nature of the allegation, however police are alleging that the councillor was aggressive and resisted arrest. Over 20 witnesses have come forward to state that the police acted heavy handed, without justification and refused to investigate the validity of the accusations made against the Keighley Councillor.

Mrs. Clarke has been left severely bruised and in pain by the heavy handed tactics of the police who according to witnesses acted with undue force and she will be making a formal complaint against the police as well as taking legal advice on making a complaint of perverting the course of justice against the rival activist who made the false call to the police.

Oh, it goes on a bit too much about immigration and Moslems (rather like UKIP's fixation on the EU), and its economic nostrums are more often than not left-wing populist fallacies (a bit like some of ours), but all in all it seems to be accurately reporting the facts and honestly pointing out unpalatable truths. And it's enormously better than our Independence News.

(Actually the BNP seems a lot closer to Marxism than Nazism.)

I don't think there is anything in there that warrants seizure. It's well put together, but some of the content is poor to say the least.

It does go on about the usual BNP fixations, but there isn't anything a free speach nation should be worrying about.

New Labour, New Nazis.

Isn't it a little ironic the BNP printing their newsletter in Slovakia?!
