Default Charles Clarke, ‘ID cards are about controlling society’

http://www.politics.co.uk/press-releases/no2id-charles-clarke-%E2%80%98id-cards-are-about-controlling-society%E2%80%99-$15035887.htm

Quote:
The Home Secretary has admitted that the purpose of ID cards scheme is to control society.

In comments made to the Eastern Daily Press [1] this weekend, the Home Secretary claimed that we already live in 'Big Brother society' and that it is his job to control it, branding civil liberties concerns "ridiculous" and independent costings of the scheme “absurd”. This, despite the fact that the Home Office response to the LSE report has be shown to contain fabricated figures [2].
That's the contempt you leaders have for you Britain. Bow down before your masters, who must keep us all in line. Freedom is dead.

Quote:
Phil Booth, NO2ID’s National Coordinator said:

"Mr Clarke’s arguments don’t stand up, and he is now trying to confuse the British public with doublespeak. But this is an important admission. His stated intent to 'control Big Brother society' shows the Government's real agenda: to monitor law-abiding citizens throughout their entire lives. The Government just wants control.
Obvious really. But some people are happy to be monitored. They are happy to trust government totally, even with the lessons of history.

Quote:
"Mr Clarke says concerns are just about cost, and we fully expect him to cap the price of the card itself. But the money for the biggest IT project anywhere in the world still has to come from somewhere. This too is a diversion. Government wants to control your life: of course that will cost you money. But the ultimate cost of the scheme will be in freedom and privacy. And everyone will pay."
Obviously they will do a smoke and mirrors job on the costs. People have to realise that just because they might not ask for the full amount up front, we will still pay for it for evermore via our taxes.

Wouldn't it be nice to see some statements from UKIP on this from time to time!

It would. I had a quick scan through the Party Rag for something on this, couldn't see a thing.
The excuse I received for no traffic about ID cards was the old saw of media disinterest in UKIP - does that apply to our in house rag too?

I don't think that they understand that the amount of effort that we put INTO phpbb_the EU is about the amount of effort we need to simultaneously put INTO phpbb_12 other areas if we are to be taken seriously.

Where is the campaign on ID cards? Discipline in schools? GM crops? Food labelling in restaurants? Age ratings for TV programmes and magazines?

There are all sorts of campaigns that we should be running.

I'd agree with that! It seems months ago that RKS said there were no real policies. All I see is Nigel Farage on an oft repeated programme on BBC Parliament! Whatever Ukippers think of him, I think he could at least be seen as a good voice for Ukip.

Is he being suppressed by a cabal of non-thinkers?

Farage is pretty liberal in a lot of ways (anyone remember Question Time).

I don't think anyone suppresses him though. I just don't think the will has been there in the leadership and maybe to an extent the membership too. I think the fact research groups are being set up is a good sign, but we will need to see the fruit of them before we can really tell.

UKIP will always have the EU as it's central pillar. Afterall, it's the one thing that does effect all others! It's making sure that the EU doesn't get covered to the exclusion of all other issues that's important. I'm more optimisitc that this could be changing now.

So is sterilisation, compulsory euthanasia and gas chambers. Can't happen here? Maybe people thought it couldn't happen in Germany in 1919.
