Default Offenders database 'to cut crime'

Quote:
A computer system allowing police to share details of dangerous offenders has been unveiled by the Home Office. The £10m Violent and Sex Offenders Register (Visor) is intended to help reduce re-offending and contains information on 47,000 people.

It controversially includes details on people who have not been convicted, but are still considered a public danger. Minister Fiona Mactaggart said Visor could help reduce crime and was "a step change in public protection"
I await the first court case from a person who has not been convicted fighting the fact they have been placed on an 'offenders' register - good luck to them!

Also, has anyone ANY idea of why such a database would cost £10 million?

This is getting silly now. What right has this stupid government got to put someone on this database with no conviction. This is another authortarian, bordering on Nazi method of population control.

10 million of our cash to do it too.

Britain is being turned INTO phpbb_one big open prison.

Of course. The contract will have been secured by New Labour party donors. Also there are not 47,000 on the database as mentioned in the press release. It's intended that that number should eventually be on it. It beggars belief that they should say that this is step change in public protection - the Government lets anyone INTO phpbb_the Country without checking their antecedents viz: Afghan warlord wanted for war crimes; manic street preachers wanted in Jordan; greek cypriot serial rapist; American murderers. £10million seems fair when one bears in mind that a single protection screen in the House of Commons visitor's gallery cost £875,000
