Default Police lied about Menezes

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4157892.stm
Quote:
He said the statements suggest Mr de Menezes had walked INTO phpbb_Stockwell Tube station, picked up a free newspaper, walked through ticket barriers and had started to run when he saw a train arriving.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, police said Mr de Menezes had been acting suspiciously and suggested he had vaulted the ticket barriers.
So the police lied about him running away. They lied about him vaulting the ticket barriers, They lied about him acting suspiciously.
Quote:
Police also said the Brazilian electrician had worn a large winter-style coat - but the leaked version suggested he had in fact worn a denim jacket.
And they lied about his clothing
Quote:
The leaked version said Mr de Menezes was being restrained by a community officer when he was shot by armed police, our correspondent added.
And they lied when they said that they had to shoot him.

ITV news (I think) stated that a single police officer thought that he might have been one of the four suicide bombers, but by the time he was sitting on the tube, that had become a confirmed sighting and an authorisation to shoot to kill.

How can we possibly trust any police announcements from now on? It looks like they completely fabricated events from start to finish to cover up their own ****-up.

Matt just posted the very same, and I completely agree with both of you, this is completely unnacceptable. We really can't even trust a UK-police based investigation INTO phpbb_this now.

Fully backed by government no doubt.

What else have the liars been lying about lately?

Any incidents where they won't show the CCTV footage or say that all the cameras were broken, are now deemed suspect.

I don't suppose it would be the first time that police officers collaberated to cover their backs after a shooting.

Let us not lose sight of what happened.
Terrorists killed 52 innocent people, besides the dozens of wounded,
amputees, blinded people etc, etc who possibly will never get over what happened.
The police, during their efforts to protect the public from further attacks, unfortunately killed 1 innocent member of the public.which looks like the result of a ba**s up in the surveillance operation.
It must be remembered that the Britiish Police have not had previous experience of facing a suspected suicide bomber.
If the Israelies, US army and Iraq police find it practically impossible to stop, what chance our police?
It's easy to sit in front of a computer and pontificate about what went wrong, and what should have happened in a perfect world.
People make mistakes, especially when seconds count and on the whole I maintain the Police have done a very good job.
No doubt mistakes have been made, with possibly efforts to cover up those mistakes, but let's wait untill the official inquiry is unveiled
before jumping on the "cover up" bandwagon.

Yes, a good idea.
Let's wait for the official cover up to be published.

What are we paying them to do then? Sir Ian Blair said they were prepared. They were obviously not. The officer on watch went for a pee at the vital moment.

The terrorists need to be caught and convicted. But not in a ham-fisted, trigger-happy, and dangerous manner.

We don't do the memories of the 52 victims any service by descending INTO phpbb_free-for-all policing methods.

Didn't Piers Morgan run with a leaked story in the Mirror a while back?

How exactly do you suggest that anyone obtains experience of facing a suicide bomber :?:

The only answer IMHO, shoot the ********

Ian Blair is an unmitigated oaf. In interview on his appointment as Britain's 'premier' police officer he reveals his priority: to arrest middle-class weekend party-going drug takers. (For heaven's sake). He also reveals his dislike of 'gated communities'. (Poor call now considering the extra duty-liabilities the Met have copped due to the bombs). Like his namesake - who had the gall to say that 'others had taken their eye off the ball since 9/11' - he is more concerned with implementing New Labour's diversity and inclusion strategies (obliged to, I suppose) than protecting the public. His post 7/7 media appearances have the look of someone gagging to be on the front page of Hello and who has never heard of sub judice. This current, unfolding fiasco - added to the fact that no meaningful extra cover was given to London's transport system until after 21/7 - suggests that hopefully he'll be shipped out shortly with a nervous breakdown or similar.
